Well, as I said, the good news is the left finally found Arabs it won't trust.
The bad news is, they're on our side.

I despise those hideous "Joos control the world!" cartoons. I am not sure these are much different. Big nose, swarthy complexion...

You have to rid yourself of the idea that the US democratic party is somehow representative of the left.
They are for globalisation, the free market, they voted for the war, they oppose socialised medicine and higher corporate taxes, most of them voted against Kyoto and support TWAT and Gitmo.
Surely Clinton taught you that Capitalism has no better friends than the Democrats.
Old British story.
A British ambassador is showing his succesor around Washington.
"There is a two party system here" he tells the new man
"Firstly you have the Republicans, who are roughly equivalent to our Conservative party"
"Secondly we have the Democratic party, which is roughly equivalent to our Conservative party"
Thank-you, I'm here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress!

So, is Cagle's point that Arabs are too cross-eyed to load and unload ships without breaking a lot of stuff?

I've said it before, Dennis. You really are a funny guy.
The right accusing the left of racism. I thought I'd heard it all.
By the way, if it's anything, it's not racism. Arabs are not a "race." (The whole concept of "race" is essentially meaningless anyway.) If the Democrats are to be accused of anything, it is more correctly prejudice. An anti-Arab prejudice.
But even that is wrong. Notice the prefix "pre" in the word "prejudice." That indicates judging someone or something before the fact. This was a case of judging the UAE AFTER THE FACT of 9/11, of their dealings with terrorists, and their obsession with making ever larger amounts of cash. These are all FACTS which should have been considered when allowing a company OWNED AND CONTROLLED by a foreign government to run some of our ports. I realize they were not providing security per se, but they would have been in charge of the daily operations. And that's about as bad an idea.

(Fred Green, you seem to have overlooked how, by its very "definition", the left "cannot" "be" right.)
Isn't anyone else alarmed that Arabs now appear to be cloning port managers? The "evidence" is clearly "there" before our "eyes", as in OCCULAR ORGANS.

And yes, the cartoon is shamefully similar to anti-Semitic cartoons published by Nazis and/or others. In fact, it is also an anti-Semitic cartoon, since the Arabs are ALSO a Semitic people. I'm sure you knew that, Dennis, but I'll bet all the Michelle Malkin fans reading your blog didn't. But no matter what, the cartoon is really appalling. I agree.

Posted by: Fred Green | March 15, 2006 at 01:17 AM
Yeah, yeah, Jews and Arabs, both Semitic peoples... just like the Nazis were gonna embrace them other Aryans in New Delhi and Calcutta...

Wow, Fred. This is a little sudden, but there's a chance for us if you look good in hiking boots and will spring for the marshmallows.

Perfect generic bigotry - equally at home in any part of the political spectrum where ignorance is considered a virtue.

When a developer and major Democratic donor in Los Angeles closes down an African-American housing project for formerly homeless families, after the African-American operator accepts a reward from a Republican group, and expressly states that as his reason, what do you call that?

Fred, how come there are no people of color at the MoveOn rally in Studio City every week?
Fred, how come the nice man in the tuxedo with the Rainbow Coalition ribbon was screaming "Get that nigger off my street!" at me in Bel Air that night?
Fred, how come the last time the DNC had to cut staff to save money, every staffer they let go was African-American?
Fred, how come Howard Dean, the Great Left Hope in the last election, had not one African-American official in his gubernatorial administration>
Fred, how come the Republicans have appointed far more African Americans to cabinet posts than the Democrats?
Fred, how come the Left in this country feels fine with telling us Miguel Estrada is not a "real hispanic" and calling Powell and Rice "house slaves?"

Richard -
Good points, but I wouldn't make too much out of this one:
My guess is that African-Americans are a very small minority in Vermont, but I could be wrong on that. Nonetheless it's an indicator of good pan-ethnic "Yankee" sense for anyone to eschew Howard Dean, don't you think?

I'm confused. Is Dennis saying the cartoon is racist, or that it's accurately depicting why Americans are afraid of the port deal?
Posted by: neil | March 15, 2006 at 02:26 PM
Here is some more of Cagle's work. I went through his last two months of published cartoons, and there were only two that -didn't- have a Mooslim caricature in them.

I thought what happened is the guy jacked up the rent a thousand fold. And I call that a good argument for rent control, which Ted Hayes and his friend Larry Elder oppose.
Posted by: LYT | March 15, 2006 at 03:33 PM
I don't think there is any doubt that racism is involved in the reaction. Yes, I know that Arabs are not black and Islam is not a race but the reaction of people to the deal was a classic "There goes the neighborhood" response. I was waiting for someone to burn crosses in front of their embassy.
BTW, when are the Saudis and the Chinese going to be forced into giving up their port deals? It seems the righteous indignation concerning our ports being in the hands of foreigners died with this particular deal.

That'll teach those uppity Dubaiians to diversify their economy, build commercial ties to the West, and offer vital strategic assistance to U.S. forces in the Gulf. Such effrontery!

LYT — I'm repeating the guy's own quote. You're just describing the guy's method. As an added irony, the White House ordered HUD to take over and relocate the operation, so now it really IS a Republican project.
