The Wall Street Journal seems to think tonight's Really Big Obama Speech is "high stakes". To which I say, "My fat white ass it is...":
President Barack Obama, in a high-stakes speech Wednesday to Congress and the nation, will press for a government-run insurance option in a proposed overhaul of the U.S. health-care system that has divided lawmakers and voters for months.
White House officials say the president will detail what he wants in the health-care overhaul, as well as say he is open to better ideas on a government plan if lawmakers have them.
If Waffles the Clown had made this sort of speech on July 9, rather than September 9, it might have meant something, but as it stands getting up tonight and trying to muster support of a public option is the equivalent of pissing in the wind. And as everyone but the President has now put their plan on the table, tonight will simply highlight, once again, to what extent Barack Obama has completely lost control of the debate.
Reality? Tonight's speech is one to miss. It will give the media and the chattering classes something to do tomorrow, but it don't mean shit about shit. Even if Waffles finally does articulate what health care, er, insurance, er, whatever the fuck it is today reform actually means to him, the process is far too far along for him to get anything meaningful out of Congress.
I'm most certainly missing tonight's speech. But I heard FoxNews refer to it as "high stakes" as well.
Either someone is setting unreasonably high expectations of Obama, or that's exactly how Obama and his cronies view it.
I say "unreasonably" because you're right, Dennis. This speech is too little, too late for The Won™, and the WSJ has to know that. Same for Foxs.
And speeches don't change the course of events, people working their butts off do. Which is exactly what Obama has NOT been doing, especially considering his August vacation.
OTOH, Obama is a big enough narcissist to think that this speech will fix all the problems facing his health care "reform". He loves his camera time, he do!
But, in either case, I'm doing something else tonight. I'm not sure what, but watching Bammy on the boob tube ain't it.

Dennis,
I would disagree will The Once having "lost" control of the debate. Obama never laid a glove on it.He is winging this as he has winged the rest of his life. If it works,he will claim credit,if it flops, someone else will go under the bus.
