Andrew Sullivan's unrequited love for Bambi Obama is so cute, don't you think? I know I do:
The Republican party right now is largely bonkers. The Democratic party is a lily-livered hackfest of mediocrity. I remain of the view that Obama is the best thing going for this country. But between the insanity on the right and incoherence on the left, he is marooned in a lonely center. Maybe in the long run, this is a better place to be. Right now it is making governance close to impossible, at a moment when we need all hands on deck.
Is that great, or what? I just can't help it anymore. I read stuff like this and end up laughing hysterically. Evidently Andrew Sullivan is determined to make a run at DtP's 2010 Worst Writing blog award...
A "lily-livered hackfest of mediocrity"?
Oy veh. Not even Amanda Marcotte would dare to write that. Or at least I don't think she'd dare to write something like that. Anyway, were Sullivan looking through anything other than the filmy gauze of mystical yearning (how's that for writing, eh?), he'd have noticed that Bambi's attempts at playing King haven't worked all that well. If the Democrats in Congress are making a hash of things, it can, in no small part, be blamed on Obama's refusal to provide any practical measure of leadership during the legislative process.
Governance is not impossible. That's the oldest, lamest excuse in the book, and it is only dragged out to protect the legacies of weak presidents. Weak presidents like Bambi. The only barrier between Bambi Obama and goverance is his refusal to lead. Andrew Sullivan should know that, but love does funny things to a man, doesn't it?
Didn't Sullivan hang off Bush's jock for a long time? Maybe he just has thing for alpha males. Of course, he's dangling from the wrong one in the Messiah's case.

Actually, Andrew went through this phase with both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
Andrew is forever looking to be dominated by a weak man. It's why strong women like Sarah Palin terrify him to the extent they do.

"filmy gauze of mystical yearning"
That was so good it sent a thrill up my leg.

Sullivan doesn't seem to appreciate that governance in a constitutional republic isn't supposed to be easy. Our government was designed to have numerous checks and balances in place that make radical change very difficult to achieve unless an overwhelming majority consent to the change. We don't have a dictator, despot, emperor, or king to impose tyranncial rule. The PEOPLE collectively are the sovereign. We have checks and balances to help prevent a small majority from imposing its will in a tyrannical manner on a minority who are opposed to radical change.
Sullivan has it backwards. The system would be broken if Obama and the Democrats could easily impose their radical agenda.
