Nancy Pelosi reminds us of one of the primary reasons health care reform and the Obama presidency are circling the bowl:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue's massive role in this election year.
Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program "This Week."
"We're not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress," she said. "We're here to do the job for the American people."
It took courage for Congress to pass Social Security and Medicare, which eventually became highly popular, she said, "and many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill."
Nice of her to underscore the fact that for a sizable number of Congressional Democrats, the combined leadership of Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are only asking for a short walk off a very tall cliff. Now that's how you rally the troops!
AP adds to the hilarity with this observation:
It's unclear whether Pelosi's remarks will embolden or chill dozens of moderate House Democrats who face withering criticisms of the health care proposal in visits with constituents and in national polls.
Oh, I think it's pretty fucking clear how Kamikaze Nan's comments will be received: Nancy Pelosi has now publicly conceded that there is no way she, Harry Reid or super genius/communicator Barack Obama will be able to convince the American people of Obamacare's yummy goodness between now and Easter.
Obamacare's new Pelosi-inspired logo.
No matter what we get out of this
I know, I know we'll never forget

I'm surprised that Queen Nancy doesn't wear the white Kamikaze "do rag" around her head when she steps into the house. (Okay for my Japanesse friends I know that there's a proper Japanese name for the head band.)

Actually, the literal translation from the Japanese is "head band thingy".

"We're here to do the job for the American people."
...
Let me finish that for ya Miss Plasti Face,
..."that don't want us to do that job."

They don't have the votes, Dennis. They never did. The real reason why it's a 99.9% certainty the GOP will control Congress next year is simply because the remaining Liberals...excuse me, deluded chucklefucks out there...will know for sure that Obama played them like the morons they are when they realize the Magic Health Care Fairy ain't coming.
They'll stay home in droves and pout like the petulant wastes of oxygen they are. The GOP will have a landslide like nobody's ever seen before.
Hell, I think we can actually get Obama impeached before 2012.
Posted by: Arcadian | February 28, 2010 at 08:23 PM
If government were somehow capable of bringing my costs down while improving the services I get, I still wouldn't want them do it. It's not their job, they should butt right the hell out.
It's a nice thought, Arcadian, but I'm not so sure it's going to be that much of a landslide.

Hell, I think we can actually get Obama impeached before 2012.
Two words, Arcadian: President Biden.
Are you sure you want to go there?

That smoke trail looks like a crescent!

You impeach both President Obama (for false pretenses in campaigning) and Vice President Biden (for being a clueless meadow muffin--dumber 'n a box of rocks) and what do you get? President Nancy Pelosi! Hachimaki!!!!!
No one wants to go there. And while I think the Dems have shown that they could screw up a two car funeral, I'm not certain that this current batch of Republicans could do a great deal better--maybe they could handle a three car funeral.

The Messiah's facial reactions during the health care "summit"
LOL, The Messiah has probably not had anyone tell him NO before he became President. He's probably used to having a pack of sycophants telling him how smart he is. His whole career is one sham Nobel Peace Prize, so to speak.
I love cheap laughs!

Wayne-
It does look like a crescent. Goddamn Freemasons are everywhere.

Alright, then 2011 we impeach Obama and Biden. The person after that would be the then GOP Speaker of the House, John Boehner. He finishes out Obama's term, 2012 we select a new President.
Posted by: Arcadian | March 01, 2010 at 07:24 AM
I think the impeachment talk is just silly at this point. If the Dems do lose congress, Obama either has to change to get anything done, or nothing gets done.
Either way, its probably better for the country.

Impeachment involves high crimes and misdemeanors...
Not low comedy and incompetence.
And why would anyone want John Boehner in the White House?

Quoted from an impeccaable source (me:)
And the AMAZING thing is WHO Pelosi is asking to take this risk. This is a women who has steered over $200 million in no-bid contracts to companies she, her husband,or her family have interests in, whose own Cogressional seat MIGHT be at risk if the head of NAMBLA ran against her but not before, and she's asking all these other Democrats to risk their ricebowls, their kickbacks, their safe little gerrymandered empires, for her and Barack Obama? Ain't gonna happen.

Short term, passing this monstrosity would hurt the Democrat Party and its remoras.
Long term, as Mark Steyn has pointed out, it would permanently entrench a left-of-center political culture.

I don't want the Exec and Legislative wings to be run by the same party, at least not our two main parties. I would much rather have utter gridlock. That is change you can believe in!
