I was wondering if anybody was going to note that.

drug reimportation?

are you really that economically illiterate ?

Jeff-

What part didn't you understand?

Reimportation generally means from Canada. The Canadian government negotiates low prices. The additional profit for pharma companies selling there is small - they accept this because getting a small profit on what they ship there is more money than getting zero profit after being prohibited from shipping by the Canadians. The Canadians are riding on our backs, and have virtually no pharma industry of their own. If the industry had to sell their product everywhere at Canadian prices, many drugs on the market now would never have been profitable. The effect of reimporting wouyld be equivalent to extending Candadian price controls to the United States.

If reimportation were allowed, the pharma companies would stop shipping to Canada. If forced to ship to Canada, they would stop much of their drug development - what would be the point?
