Remember last week? Barack Obama doesn't. The Attention Deficit Disorder President is at it again: Last week was Fiscal Responsibility Week at the White House, with budget freezes and deficit reduction commissions and lots of tough talk about cutting spending and being responsible. Well, it's a new week, and a new Obama theme (to be announced), so we shouldn't be completely surprised by this:
President Obama is sending Congress a $3.8 trillion budget on Monday that will increase spending in the fight against high unemployment, boost taxes on the wealthy and freeze spending for a number of government programs.
The deficit for this year would surge to a record-breaking $1.6 trillion, according to a congressional official who had access to a White House summary document. That deficit would easily top last year's then-record $1.41 trillion gap.
It's like last week never happened... Which seems to sum up so much of Bambi's presidency to date.
Troubling? Yes. But none of this would have happened if the Republicans had been bipartisan, you know.
It's Bush's fault.

That's yesterday's excuse. Today's is "The Republicans aren't bipartisan". And by bipartisan it is meant "willing to pass the Democrats' legislation so they don't have to".

1. Share the blame when the roof falls in.
2. Plenty of blame to go around, but that's not how things work.
3. The Democrats have been arrogant and obtuse enough to arouse the white middle class to a somnolent state and will reap their just reward.
4. Imagine what would happen if they woke 'em up.

Actually the thought of a McCain presidency scared me a Hell of a lot more than an Obama presidency.
I sort of resent the idea that you'd think I sound like either Krugman or Will. I'm not smart enough to be that stupid.

Obtuseness really isn't your forte, anon. Or would that be sarcasm? Anywho, Dennis makes an excellent point, and I think he's entitled to rub it in the faces of the idiots who voted for Obama. If that includes you, oh well.
Dennis, your ADD diagnosis looks to be spot on (h/t to Paco Enterprises.
Unrelated side note: I consider calling ADD a "disorder" on the same level as referring to obesity as "contagious". The problem isn't medical, it's how the person was raised. Obama is easily bored because he's too lazy to think for himself, probably a result of the education system.
But, hey, ADD describes his problem nicely.

HOW do you fight unemployment by taking money out of the economy via taxation?
How do government employees contribute to the economy?
What happens to the unemployment numbers once the boondoggle money runs out?
Have any of these morons ever taken a Bus Ad class, a economics class, or even ran a lemonade stand?

It looks like Obama is going to "tackle" the problems in the No Child Left Behind Act. I'm making odds right now that by May 1st this "reform" will be toxic as well.
Just think, he can have his creepy safe school czar leading the charge.
Wanna bet?

Judging by the ease with which he tires and the amount of time he takes off to rest, our esteemed President also seems to suffer from the same thing I do - LAD.

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Evidence of a self-sustaining U.S. recovery is emerging on the factory floors of Texas Instruments Inc. The second-largest U.S. chipmaker will spend almost $1 billion this year to expand three factories and open a fourth to fill orders.
The need to rebuild industrial capacity after the largest decline on record in 2009 is boosting capital spending and may spur hiring. Beneficiaries are led by technology equipment- makers Intel Corp., Applied Materials Inc. and EMC Corp., as well as industrial product providers General Electric Co. and Rockwell Automation Inc.
Capital spending will increase the total productive capacity of the U.S. economy above its pre-recession level of December 2007, helping gross domestic product grow at a 2.7 percent annual rate in 2010, according to the median forecast of 67 economists in a Jan. 14 Bloomberg News survey. That would be the fastest rate since 2006.

A budding economic recovery couldn't save Billy Jeff in 1994.

C'mon, Mark. Just man up and admit it's you.
Oooooooooooooh I said "man up." That was probably hetero-normative of me.

Hard to have a recovery when every white collar in every bank on the coasts and brokerage houses on the Street is collectively convinced that the President is just waiting for them to expose themselves in order to change the rules again...
It's not an administration. It's a revolution. Remember the rules.
I work for one of the largest (possibly the largest left, by now) privately held construction companies west of the Mississippi. We are a few weeks away from bringing in a city block of parking and our part of a tower - which we inherited six months behind schedule from a distressed contractor - six weeks ahead of the original contract completion date.
We were supposed to jump across the street to the east and knock out a quarter block of parking and two towers... but that is now officially on hold until at least the end of next summer.
The client has cash to cover the project. But the client would be a fool to build empty buildings, assets not withstanding.
Buckle up.

I don't think that's Mark. Mark couldn't do a post in under 100 words... Even when he was cherrypicking factoids.

I guess that unemployment insurance is going to come in handy won't it Tim?

I might just be the second towel boy in a Turkish bordello by this time a month hence.
I'll be first pretty quick, though. Because I try harder~!

Topped out hourlies at Costco make nearly as much. And Costco is a hell of a lot better place to work than the Census.

Richard to be fair I'm pretty sure some of it's Cheney's.
Randy Costco is probably the better job, certainly more permanent. I think they get benes too.
Dennis - just wanted to pass along some news from the reality based world.

"That would be the fastest rate since 2006."
Which, coincidentally, is the same time the Dems took over in Congress. Unemployment at the time was at about 5% . After 4 years of Donkey Cong-gress and 1 year of Obama the Clown, it's at 10%.

Lefty-
If you ever stumbled across Reality, I'm quite sure you'd pick yourself up and continue on as if nothing ever happened.
