All you brain-dead Republicans need to remember one thing about Andrew Breitbart and his shitty little media empire: He thinks publishing Pamela "Pammycakes" Geller is a good idea.
In the long run, he's going to make you look like morons for championing him.
Along those lines, here is one of Breitbart's drones getting real stupid:
Can This Possibly Be True? New Obama Missle Defense Logo Includes A Cresent
The Obama administration’s determined effort to reduce America’s missile defense capabilities initially seemed to be just standard Leftist fare — of a piece with the Democratic base’s visceral hostility to the idea of protecting us against ballistic missile threats. A just-unveiled symbolic action suggests, however, that something even more nefarious is afoot.
You just cannot make this sort of stuff up: We're back to "Muslims in the closet" again. Even someone as dense as Charles Johnson knows that shit's past its sell date.
I don't know who Frank Gaffney is, but it's pretty clear the world has passed him by in the past 9 or so years. Unfortunately, to date nobody's been able to put him out to pasture. And because nobody's put him out to pasture, this is what you get (in lieu of content). It's the sort of dreck that is put out by people incapable of processing changes in their world. It helps them cope with their own intellectual helplessness.
And it's to Andrew Breitbart's immense discredit that he gives this sort of nonsense a veneer of legitimacy by publishing it.
The next time you want to cheer on Andrew Breitbart for taking down ACORN or puffing out his chest at the likes of Max Blumenthal, remember this bit of egregiously stupid anti-Muslim bigotry.

wait ... is this LGF now ?
wow, you are as smart as Johnson now ...
strike 2 ...

If that's not a crescent what the fuck is it?

I see a space football helmet. Obama.......taking the NFL into space to make the universe safe from Rush Limbaugh.

Let's see...Obie's AG appoints 9 terrorist defenders to DOJ...
Even Napolitano admits Muslim Ft. Hood gunman a terrorist...
Afghan pleads guilty to bomb conspiracy...
5 Muslim GI's arrested in terrorist plot...
Somali Muslims leaving US to go play pirate...
Obama tells NASA(?!) "to reach out to the Muslim world"...
Yep, Frank Gaffney's way out of touch.
I think you're missing the boat on this one,Dennis.I mean,it ain't like Obie isn't capable of bullshit adolescent passive agressive gestures...
Posted by: richard mcenroe | February 25, 2010 at 11:08 AM
But that IS a crescent, Dennis, maybe for New Orleans and the star denotes Pat O'Briens. A shamrock would've worked better, imo.
You know, we've been conditioned to hew to PC, put up with "America last" garbage, bend over backwards for the Others' sensibilities, to count racial and religious beans, to hyphenate ethno-Americans and to accommodate/ celebrate anybody's perspective, even intolerant ideology, as long as the believer isn't a Caucasian somewhat conservative male, and esp. subset Christian. Hell, I've been chided for using the F word, "foreigner", (a really good thing when it comes to music, however.)
Graphics matter. Ad agencies charge you big buck$$$ to create memorable, branding symbols that convey what your organization's about. I give a big Fail on this one, just as with that proposed crescent park memorial to the downed jetliner on 911. Try designing a logo with a cross or Star of David look-alike for the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
Yeah, they're bigoted haters (Islamists, some fundy Christians/ Republicans) who read too much into everything, but we don't have to feed their twisted glee or horror over Federal official crescents popping up everywhere post 911. If I were Emperor, I'd still allow moon gazing, though.

Yeah, conservatives are jumping on Breitbart's bandwagon a little to quickly. I was also amused to the association between Pammy and Andrew B., but it's the sort of coalescing you see in turbulent times (see also the sale of Hot Air . . . Malkin may be objectionably strident, but she appears to have some business sense). On the other hand, at least Breitbart isn't one of those libertarian super-geniuses over at Reason . . .
What with two wars on, I have a hard time getting worked up over this logo stuff.
Posted by: David | February 25, 2010 at 11:38 AM
I don't know what's worse... the way the "Muslims under the bed" conspirators jump all over nefarious curvy shapes infiltrating our precious polygonal culture in conservative media - or the way some of Dennis' commenters seem to think that if it IS actually shaped like a crescent it is OBVIOUSLY evidence of some kind of Islamic terrorist infiltration. No freaking way it could just be just an innocent shape. That's what THEY want us to think... just before they suicide bomb our unwary asses!!!
Good thing it wasn't shaped like a missile. That's a phallic reference which is obviously evidence of advancing the homosexual agenda.
Shaped like a circle? A circle is obviously an "O"... for Obama. That's Evidence The One is planning to become our dictator for life.
I'd like to think there's a way to be sensibly vigilant without wetting yourself everytime you see certain shapes.
Posted by: Doug | February 25, 2010 at 12:09 PM
Ehh, there are two pretty facially undeniable points about that logo. One, it is a crescent. That's the name for that particular geometric shape. Doesn't make it an Islamic crescent, but it does make anyone who thought it was a good idea a friggin moron.
Two, there isn't any honest doubt that it's intended to be reminiscent of the Obama campaign logo. FWIW, this is the first time I've seen it. I opened the page, saw the logo - without reading any of the text - and thought "What is this new Obama logo for?" I for one don't think it's particularly appropriate for any politician to use federal funds and federal agencies to extend his branding in that way. YMMV.

YOu know, Doug, I don't see anybody here reacting to a nefarious "conspiracy", but to think incorporating a crescent and star into an official Defense logo isn't at least ridiculously stupid is to not be paying attention to how symbols REALLY matter to radical Islamists-- you know, those people we're fighting right now.
And symbols seem to be fairly important to this administration, as well. Didn't it get caught trying to get the arts community on board for selling its image and message?
Posted by: Mat | February 25, 2010 at 12:24 PM
1. Who gives a rat's ass?
2. Not important.
3. Think it looks kind of cool.
4. But then O's "O" design is too.

Dear Mister Peasant: Awesome commenters! One would almost think you'd paid them to comment on this post. After all, how often does one see the blogger's point made so beautifully?
The only thing I can think of on the other side of the "aisle" as dopey as this recently is the Move On virtual march. Yeah, that was embarrassing.
Yours in Idiocy

J. West-
Agreed on all points.
Jeff-
Spend much time worrying about the pernicious influence of Freemasonry? If not, why not?
(strike three)
Posted by: Dennis the Peasant | February 25, 2010 at 02:25 PM
Wait a minute, Dennis might be on to something. The Freemasons supposedly evolved from the Knights Templar, who fought Saladdin in the crusades. This might be pointing to the location of the Grail which might be in Mecca, or Medina.
Hot damn, a conspiracy.

Where's Dan Brown when you need him?
Posted by: Dennis the Peasant | February 25, 2010 at 05:15 PM
Wait! Not every Republican is all smoochie with Breitbart.
He's been cultivating a stable of nutcases for months now. Most of them are tea "don't call us baggers" pers. They are all about independence and third-party verbage, when not ranting and raving about Muslims, birth certificates, and 911.
There is one here in STL, who has managed to parlay her Breitbart celebrity, to gigs with PJTV, blog conventions, a radio program, etc etc.
Republicans spent too many years alienating the crazies like Geller and Breitbart. We really don't want them back.
Posted by: Guesst | February 25, 2010 at 05:26 PM
If anybody out there has any functioning neurons left, they might note that the logo looks a lot like one of the Appolo mission patches. I frankly forget which one - functioning neurons are exactly abundent around here anymore, either.
But since the current adnministration seems like to cut missile defense down to one G-12 and 3 G-7 clerks in a Pentagon closet (ABL, anyone ?), it's all kind of moot, isn't it ?
Posted by: Mike C. | February 25, 2010 at 05:33 PM
Will that stupid logo stop a missile? I hope so, since we apparently can't be bothered to continue the airplane-with-fricken-lasers program.
And I think that logo was designed by somebody with hope-and-change on their mind. That doesn't mean it's evil or illegal, just lame.
Posted by: A Balrog of Morgoth | February 25, 2010 at 06:02 PM
I don't know about Brietbart or Geller, or Frank Gafney.
But, I do know that the Obama Admin. appears unable to pronounce the word "Muslim terrorist" -- remember the Ford Hood shooter, and the Underwear bomber? And, obviously this logo is a crescent and star. Within this context, it rubs me the wrong way.
Posted by: Hot Pants | February 25, 2010 at 06:11 PM
sparky, don't know who here is saying anything about crescent-shaped Conspiracy. It's just a really STUPID logo, considering.
Conspiracies are for the authorities to document, not for us dopey idiots or you kewl kids to bother with.
Hey, be happy!
Posted by: Mat | February 25, 2010 at 07:09 PM
It's not a fucking cresent.
It's globe, (that empty circle in the middle of the design), surrounded by blue space, with a stylized rocket shooting across the face of the globe, with a little starburst either signifying the successful interception of a missle, or maybe the flare of the rocket's exhaust.
And the first mention of this I saw was somebody saying it looked like Obama's election campaign logo.
It's funny watching people get into a tizzy over this thing.
Posted by: Eric Blair | February 26, 2010 at 08:06 AM
Eric-
It's now obvious you are either a Muslim or a Freemason. Or both.
May you be reviled by all who meet you.
Posted by: Dennis the Peasant | February 26, 2010 at 08:52 AM
Does a Muslim Freemason poison the wells with camel piss?
Posted by: richard mcenroe | February 26, 2010 at 11:22 AM
Clearly a globe, like: this, this and
that.
(Now, this is breakfast, imo.)
Posted by: unphased | February 26, 2010 at 12:35 PM
Note that the rocket's glare is RED. That's awesome.
The designer embossed the shit out of that thing in Photoshop.
I agree that it looks like an extant Apollo mission patch. It's been twenty years since I was into aviation patches, and I don't feel like Googling it.
You can tell by looking at the logo that this iteration - with the background being basically the same tone as the globe - is one version that just happens to be more "crescenty" than we'll probably see in most iterations. It has the makings of a cool patch.
Posted by: Kyle | February 26, 2010 at 02:36 PM
Uh oh... there's a crescent in the Apollo 14 mission patch...
http://www.spaceflightnowstore.com/ww/catalog/images/imagecache/apollo14patch.jpg
Never would have guessed that Alan Shepard was a member of the Religion of Peace...
Posted by: Frank IBC | February 26, 2010 at 09:06 PM
And it's even worse on the Apollo 18 mission patch:
http://www.collectspace.com/review/a18patch.jpg
Thank G-d (not Allah) that mission was cancelled.
Posted by: Frank IBC | February 26, 2010 at 09:21 PM
Uh oh... there's a crescent in the Apollo 14 mission patch only THIRTY years before 9-11.
Hitler made this graphic a little too uncool for school, too, at least for a while.
Why dispute it's a crescent and, while we're fighting and bleeding over Islamists and jihadists who blow people and shit up for their god and flag, it does seem a bit Stupid to incorporate crescents-and-stars into official logos. THESE DAYS. Or crosses
THESE DAYS. It's as dumb as the apocryphal Nova naming and marketing to Spanish speakers. But no biggie, no conspiracy. Probably just a case of people who don't understand graphics and symbols, current events or something
