What do you do when you have a degree in journalism but don't have the brains to think for yourself? Well, if you're a no-talent dickweed like Alex Seitz-Wald, you end up working for organizations like Think Progress spinning the news for dimwit partisans:
Last night, a California man armed with two semiautomatic weapons and “many magazines” of ammunition opened fire on police officers at the entrance to the Pentagon, wounding two before being killed by police. The shooter, 36-year-old John Patrick Bedell, was “well dressed in a suit” and “very calm,” walking “very directly to the officers” before engaging them, a police spokesman said.
Bedell “appears to have been a right-wing extremist with virulent antigovernment feelings,” the Christian Science Monitor reports, who traveled from California specifically to attack the Pentagon. While police were hesitant to assign a motive, “writings by someone with his same name and birth date, posted on the Internet, express ill will toward the government and the armed forces and question whether Washington itself might have been behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.”
In one posting, Bedell ranted against “big government.” In another, he wrote, “I am determined to see that justice is served in the death of Colonel James Sabow” — a Marine whose suicide has been the subject of conspiracy theories — because it would be a “step toward establishing the truth of events such as the September 11 demolitions.
There you have it: (a) The Christian Science Monitor speculates right-wing extremism, (b) You're paid by Think Progress to propagandize against the right, so (c) Bedell is a right-wing extremist. Never mind that the police are still investigating the facts, what's important is spinning for your supper.
Of course, it's worth pointing out that if Bedell had been a commie asshole on the level of Van Jones and raving truther ravings, he'd be a fucking left-wing hero. But as we all know, when it comes to left-wing trutherism, well, that's different...
It's also worth pointing out that if Bedell had been Muslim and done what he did, we'd have the likes of Michelle Malkin and Pammycakes Geller shrieking about it being proof of the worldwide Muslim Menace that is threatening us all with bombs and burqas. No doubt some right-wing asshole "journalist" is out there, right now, putting up a post explaining why Bedell was an obvious left-wing extremist.
What seems clear is that Bedell was more disturbed than anything else. But since one of the newest games in town is to force the actions of obviously disturbed individuals into a useful political context, everyone ignores the obvious fact that sometimes it's as simple as crazy people doing something crazy.
So, Alex Seitz-Wald, this is where your journalism degree and your lack of talent has landed you: You're a D-list left-wing Michelle Malkin... A progressive Pammycakes, without Pammy's traffic. Instead of thinking, instead of dealing with issues, instead of being your own man, you're writing shitty little posts trying to convince people who are too stupid to know better that the world is flat. And all for something uncomfortably close to minimum wage.
Proud, Alex?
Update: Malkin, on cue, and being stupid.
Update the Second: The Obvious, on cue.
Is this a great day for the political blogosphere, or what?
I gather that besides being a "troofer" about 9-11, he was also a registered Democrat; and a graduate of either UC San Francisco or UC Santa Cruz---known lairs of right wing terrorist nuts. Dare I say that being any one of those four things might justify others being suspicious of your mental stability? Just sayin'--like the Christian Science Monitor and like
Alex "Dickweed" Seitz-Wald.

Actually, Malkins post isn't stupid. She's just pointing out that the MSM trying to associate this main with the right wing and the tea party movement is contrary to the facts such as the mans opposition to GW Bush and his membership of the Democrat party.

sometimes it's as simple as crazy people doing something crazy.
What?! Are you crazy?! You aren't going to argue that he was a lefty?? WTF? I am NEVER going to read this blog again, NEVER!! NOT EVEN EVER!
I was already getting ticked off that you don't run interference for the GOP.
Which is why I asked Denny's to ban you a couple of months ago. Since I eat about 18 breakfasts there a month, they were happy to comply. Especially after they saw you don't like Pammy.

Kit-
Digging up the fact that Bedell was a registered Democrat was stupid. If she was worth a shit, she'd have dug up the fact that he had a history of mental illness.
The meaningful fact of the two is that he is mentally ill, not that he's a registered Democrat. It's telling that Malkin chose to go after the man's political affiliation rather than his personal history.
And that's what I'm on about!

"The meaningful fact of the two is that he is mentally ill, not that he's a registered Democrat."
There seems to be a high correlation between the two.

Dennis, don't know if Malkin updated her post or you just didn't scroll down far enough, but she cites Zombietime approvingly:
"So, instead of playing the blame game so unapologetically employed by the Left when they feel they can spin things to their political advantage, I’m not going to say that Bedell’s actions at the Pentagon epitomize the leftist worldview. Rather, he was just crazy, as clearly indicated by his belief in the craziest of modern crazy conspiracy theories, 9/11 Truthism."

Speaking of 9/11 truth-ism, anyone want 6 unused Debra Medina bumper stickers? I just thought I was a Texas tea party member. When I signed up I started getting these very bat shit crazy emails about black helicopters, the new world order and fluoride in my drinking water. Since I cannot sign on to any of that weird shit and I would rather slam my wiener in a car-door than vote for a Democrat, I guess that makes me a reluctant Republican.

Grandma's wisdom: "It takes all kinds."
Mrs. Utah and I play the narrative game whenever a news flash crosses our path, but some days we just nod and agree - "Yep, 360 million people and ONE whackjob... who knew???"
BTW, I'm writing a letter to my neighbor Congressman Jim Matheson to remind him about the last Democrat representative from Utah, Bill Orton.
The Clintons stabbed Orton in the back via the Grand Staircase National Monument designation back in 96; Orton didn't even get a brother appointed to the Federal bench. If The Won continues with the recently leaked plans to lock up another ten million acres of Utah resources in at least two more national monuments, Matheson might as well resign his seat and be done with it.
