He's half-way 'round the world annoying the Chinese, but still has time to murder the English language:
Today I did a couple more meetings in Shanghai before my group was ushered onto a train to the smaller city of Yiwu where I’ve just now gotten checked into my hotel room.
They're a clever lot, those Chinese. Building hotels inside their trains, and whatnot.
The fact that he's "doing" meetings is a nice touch. Very yuppy. Very '80s.
In the remainder of his travelogue (over multiple posts), Matty informs us that China is...
- big,
- has lots of new buildings and stuff,
- and is full to the brim with Chinese.
- Lots of Chinese.
Paul Theroux he ain't.
If cities you’ve never heard of can have a million or more residents, then it just goes to show that you have no way of figuring out what’s really going on in a rushed week-long trip.
Translation: "My vapid preconceptions left me totally unprepared to do anything other than take pictures and 'do' meetings."

I love 'Riding The Iron Rooster', best travel book I've ever read. Not sure if it did much for the Chinese tourism industry.

And of course Mr. Economic Genius hasn't a clue about the construction bubble that's about to burst in China...

With any luck it will happen while he's there.

Picking on Mattie is like kicking a puppy. (Of course, DtP may enjoy kicking puppies...)

Well, I have to admit, China is simply crawling with Chinese.
Great food, though. The wine ? Not so much ...

Matty murders English before he takes his morning dump.
OT, but I have yet to see much in the way of outrage on this one:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-court-bagram-20100522,0,787686.story
Subhed: "Obama wins what Bush sought: the right to hold suspects without judicial oversight at the Bagram air base."
Hahahahahaha lefties where's your outrage now? Somewhat muted, I suspect, now that we're not in Bushitler's Amerikkka.

Picking on Mattie is like kicking a puppy.
Not quite.
There's no guilt involved in picking on Matthew.
