Little Matty climbs Mount Liberal and passes righteous judgment on Juan Williams:
Since my ThinkProgress colleagues are sort of “part of the story” in terms of Juan Williams getting sacked from NPR I’m a bit hesitant to comment on it. But as in the case of Rick Sanchez it seems to me that if you assume Williams has been doing valuable work all these years, firing him over this single incident is excessive. But as an NPR listener, I’m a good deal more familiar with Williams’ work than I am with Sanchez’s and it seems clear to me that Williams has not, in fact, been doing valuable work all these years. If Williams had never made these remarks about Muslims and NPR announced his firing this morning on the grounds of general lameness and lack of valuable contribution to their programming, I would have applauded the move so I’m hardly going to deplore what actually happened.
I dunno, Matty. You're doing hack work at ThinkProgress, your book didn't draw flies and you can't even get an invite to fill time on Olbermann. Suggesting it's just fine to sack D-list liberal pundits for "general lameness" could come back to haunt you some day. Some day soon, as a matter of fact.
Of course, we all know the real reason Juan Williams got fired: He got fired because he had the audacity to consort with the enemy. That's right...
Fox.
It's that simple.
For all the faux outrage over Williams' comments, let's not forget that liberals have never been shy about playing the Muslim Card when it suited their purposes.
Remember the Dubai Ports World controversy during the Bush Administration? Remember that every - and I do mean every- dimwit liberal/lefty blogger from KOS to Atrios happily thundered that George Bush was selling out America's security by allowing them Shifty Arabs (read: Muslims) to buy into U.S. ports?
Well, they did.
Yep, the liberal media's finest were in lockstep with everyone from Michelle Malkin to Charles Johnson (v1.0 of CJ, that is) to Robert Spencer to Glenn Beck to Michael Savage on that issue. Now why would they do that, being that their so smart and unscared and unbigoted and whatnot?
Because they thought they had a winning political issue. That's why.
Let's also remember that it wasn't Matthew Yglesias that was out there doing the spadework to uncover the facts of that particular issue. He wasn't the one out there pointing out the mindless bigotry of everyone from KOS to Malkin. Not by a long shot.
That work was left for some bitter clinger of a Republican non-journalist in Ohio to do.
What Matt Yglesias was doing at that precise moment was running with the liberal pack, just like he runs with the liberal pack on all issues at this precise moment. That's what you do when you're lame.
Beyond that, let's not discount the irritation factor for folks like Matty. After all, what we're hearing is the distain of a man who must wait for his master's voice (in this case John Podesta) before knowing what's he's allowed to think. Juan Williams' intelllectual honesty surely must have been a source of constant irritation... Nobody likes to be reminded they're gutless.
Anyway, the bottom line is that Juan Williams got his ass fired for being willing to be on Fox News.
Liberals, and especially liberal media twats like NPR (and Yglesias), just cannot get over the fact that when left to their own devices, their talents rise to the level of the crap on MSNBC and CNN. You know, the sort of political entertainment that America refuses to watch... Since NPR and the rest cannot or will not change, what then becomes important is ensuring that anyone in the liberal/left camp who rises to the level of Fox News is punished appropriately.
It's the lame thing to do.
Note: It occurs to me that appearing on Fox News was really only half of Williams' crime. The other half was, obviously, being willing at admit to some of the more obvious shortcomings of the Obama Administration and the Pelosi/Reid Congress. Being that this is the Age of Obama, there can be no admission of error because Barack Obama cannot actually be in error. On anything at any time. To think otherwise amounts to Karl Radek-style Right-Wing Deviationism.
Let the show trials begin!
They've just announce they're going after Mara Liasson next. They're eating their own. Pass the fuck'em sauce...

Is it just me, or is Dennis way short on trolls since his resurrection?

You are correct, seems to be a distinct lack of activity.
Hey Dennis!
Comment on something at Shakesville or Suburban Guerilla or Prairie Weather or Zandar vs the Stupid or Tbogg or Hullabaloo or Whiskey Fire.
Let's see what happens.

You've missed some important nuances in the Librul Handbook, acc to Michael Moore and the kind:
Muslims- multiculti, clit-cutting colorful, brown, brave, exotic good
Iraqis jihadists- freedom fighter early American types
Pakistanis- blowing up Truth to Power disenfranchised sympathetics
Iranians- sharia + nukes multiculturalists and anti-colonialists
Palestinians- dispossessed by evil Jews, driven to extreme murder-suicide defense modern-day martyrs
al Qaeda- giving the West what it deserves punishers
Arabs- obscenely rich, oil money tainted, only ever Republican Texans associated, autocratic capitalist, bad guys
Nevermind that 99% of Arabs are Muslims. That's why your Dubai Ports point and prejudice is not necessarily on point.

Even if they fired him for the reasons stated it's funny as hell. So, Williams admits to having anxiety when he sees certain people on a plane, a touch of a phobia perhaps. I guess that means NPR fires people for a mild psychological disorder.

I just noticed that this post got linked by memeorandum, so maybe they'll show up anyway.

It's time to de-fund NPR. It's also time to pull PBS and the NEA off the government teat.

I have long admired Juan Williams and continue to do so. I was surprised at his gut reaction, but it seemed reasonable and perhaps a tad too honest.
I was amazed that he had anything to do with Fox News -- the most biased medium I have ever encountered (I speak as a retired writer, photojournalist and documentary film maker).
Juan will be picked up very soon, I predict -- by one or more media with more neutral viewpoints.

Hey, retired writer, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker... that would be Fox News, genius. At $2 mil plus a year.
Wonder how much all those 'reporters' Soros bought NPR will be making?
